A successful family reunification
At the beginning of 2025, a woman who was living with her children in a camp a couple of hours away from Athens contacted the ELIL team, looking to be reunited with her husband and other children who were living in another European country. Initially, she contacted the northern Greece team, who quickly passed on her information to the Athens office, where she was introduced to her lawyer. First, the lawyer discussed the applicant’s current situation with her, and cleared up some misunderstandings - she thought that she had already applied for reunification with her husband, but this was not the case. Therefore, our lawyer took the necessary steps to make the application, contacting the relevant authorities both at national and pan-European levels, supporting the applicant and her family to ensure all of their documents were in order and making the appointments needed for her to give her consent to begin the process. Through careful, consistent support offered through appointments with both the applicant and her family in Europe, together they managed to complete the file with all of the needed information and paperwork. A month after sharing the file with the national authorities, the applicant was informed that her request had been accepted, and she and her children were able to travel to join the rest of their family.
