Family Reunification from Samos

In March 2025, a man from Afghanistan living in the Samos camp contacted ELIL, seeking to reunite with his wife and children in another European country. Although he had begun the family reunification process, he faced a major obstacle: he had no documents proving his relationship with them.

Our lawyer built a strong case highlighting the best interests of the children and advised him to begin DNA testing. Arranging this was difficult due to his location on the island, but with persistence, our lawyer secured access to laboratories and coordinated closely with the family’s lawyer abroad.

Despite an initial rejection by the authorities, ELIL’s intervention ensured that both the applicant and his family completed DNA testing. With the results and supporting case law, his application was finally accepted. After months of uncertainty, he will soon be reunited with his wife and children.
