European Lawyers in Lesvos is delighted and honoured to have been chosen as the recipient of the 2019 Pax Christi International Peace Prize.

Pax Christi is an international Catholic peace movement with 120 member organisations worldwide that promotes peace, respect of human rights, justice and reconciliation throughout the world. The award is made to individuals and organisations who make a stand for peace, justice and nonviolence in different parts of the world.

We are very grateful that our work to uphold the rule of law, protect human rights and ensure meaningful access to justice for refugees on Lesvos has been recognised in this way and hope that it will help raise awareness of the critical importance of ensuring that refugees have access to legal assistance throughout their asylum procedure.

We would like to thank Pax Christi International for choosing ELIL to receive this prize and the CCBE and the DAV for their on-going support. We would also like to thank all of ELIL’s staff and volunteers for their incredible hard work, dedication and self-sacrifice.
